Programme of the K.E.P.E.A. Naoussa
“On Vermio’s trails”.
It is aimed at the students of the 3rd – 6th grade of primary school, high school, general and vocational high school.

The programme is carried out in the area of Vermio, with its rich flora and fauna, its natural beauty and its various human activities such as logging, exploitation of mountain springs, cultivation, hotels, ski resorts, etc.
Its objective is to make students aware of a mountain ecosystem, of human intervention in this ecosystem, to consider prospects for sustainable use of natural resources in fragile mountain ecosystems, and to increase awareness of problems related to protection of wildlife species and their habitat.
Objectives

  • Sensitisation, knowledge of the Vermio ecosystem, observation of biodiversity and understanding of the interdependence of different life forms.
  • Evaluate human impact, reflect and participate in finding solutions.
  • Raise children’s awareness of environmental protection, ecological balance, sustainable development and sustainability.

Indicative timetable
08.30-10.00: Reception at the premises of Naoussa K.E.P.E.A. in the building of Logos-Tourpalis in Naoussa.
Information on the functioning and the activities of the KEPEA of Naoussa.
Introductory game.
Presentation about our mountain, the Vermio.
Brainstorming session, creation of a concept map and discussion about the mountain.
10.00-10.15: Break
10.15-13.00: Departure for the mountain and project activities on site.
The activities will take place on a Vermio trail starting from the “Gurnosovo” area and ending at the “Cross” place. First you will see the remains of a 1910 lumber mill and the signs of logging. Then we will identify the flora and fauna and observe the human interventions and the impact that they have left on the environment of the mountain.
13.00-14.00: Return to the KEPEA site to complete the program.
The students will have the opportunity to express themselves artistically, inspired by the mountain environment they have visited, and to present their creations.
Discussion, reflection and evaluation conclude the programme.
